Details of financial support for pharmacy staff training announced

DETAILS of funding arrangements to support pharmacy staff training during 2017-18 have been announced in NHS Circular PCA (P)(2017) 11.

There are two elements to the support: Part A — for specific courses, and Part B — to facilitate effective uptake of over the counter (OTC) consultations training.

Contractors can claim £800 on submission of evidence that a member of the staff is about to commence, has commenced, or has completed a listed course that was booked from April 1, 2017 onwards.

The courses for which funding is available are:

  • Pharmacy Services Level 2: NVQ/SVQ.
  • Pharmacy Services Level 3: NVQ/SVQ.
  • Accredited Checking Technician: NPA Accuracy in Dispensing Training Module or equivalent.
  • SQA Professional Development Award (PDA) in Final Accuracy Checking by Pharmacy Technicians.

Claims should be submitted, to Anne Watson at NHS Education for Scotland (NES) by November 30, 2017. A separate circular will be issued setting out the arrangements for submitting claims for courses started or completed from December 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018.

Also, a one-off payment of £100 will be paid to all contractors as a contribution towards releasing staff time to undertake the NES training pack, Improving the quality of over-the-counter (OTC) consultations, a copy of which will be sent to every community pharmacy in February 2018.

The payment will be made in the January 2018 dispensing, and paid at the end of March 2018.
