SALLY Arnison, pharmacist and director of Barnton Pharmacy and Travel Clinic has been awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours list for services to healthcare and the community in Edinburgh. Sally is an independent prescriber and manages caseloads of patients in her local GP practices.
She also assesses and triages minor ailments, discusses complex medication regimens with patients and their carers, administers travel vaccinations in her travel clinic and uses her clinical skills to make referrals when appropriate.
Sally told Pharmacy in Practice: “I am totally amazed to receive this honour and have no idea where it has come from.
“I think there are so many community pharmacists in Scotland who inspire me and who are doing great work everyday for their patients.
We are fortunate to work in a health service which values the role of community pharmacy and hopefully this will inspire others to make the most of the opportunities available.”
