THE following situations are based on the day-to-day practice of a pharmacist running a community pharmacy. The question of honesty will feature throughout.
The pharmacist has been working hard all day and is working late. The company policy is that no employee should ever be alone inside the business premises. Lone working could be considered gross misconduct by this company.
The prescriptions are stacking up; in fact the pharmacy is approximately three days behind with dispensing the prescriptions collected from the local surgery. The pharmacist decides reluctantly to stay late by himself to complete a compliance aid for an elderly patient due to be collected in the morning.
The next day the area manager arrives unexpectedly. He asks the pharmacist if he had done any lone working in the last few days, weeks or months. Our pharmacist say no. It turns out that a dispenser had seen lights on and phoned the store manager. The store manager visited the shop later that night, but by that time the pharmacist had locked up and gone home.
