I’ll start with the pros:
Flexibility – mainly for example I can choose the company I want to work for, the hours I want to work and the location I want to work in. It gives you a varied experience and you can learn a lot about different companies before choosing to take on a management position at that company. Taking holidays whenever I want and with having young children, it is ideal for my situation as I can take them on holiday without having to book a year in advance as some companies require.
However, there are a few cons. It’s not for people who want stable work and in a familiar place. There are no holiday or sick pay so if you fall ill or have a long-term illness, then you will need to make sure your locum rates reflect these things. It’s also difficult to build up a rapport with the pharmacy team and GPs in an area if you are constantly moving to different places.
