Feeling rather down and certainly under pressure our pharmacist wonders if making a change might help. An advert for a promotion comes through on the internal email. It says ‘speak to your line manager’ at the bottom. The area manager visits a week later to conduct our pharmacist’s mid-year review so this would seem a good opportunity to ask him about the job, which is a modest promotion.
Upon asking about the job the area manager informs the pharmacist that he could not at this stage recommend our pharmacist for the job. He tells her that although the pharmacy she currently manages is hitting a target across most key performance indicators, it is his opinion that her behaviours are not yet correct for the new role. He mentions that our pharmacist should work harder at being a ‘team player’ and also work on making sure her ethos fits with that of the company.
Taking this step in the dilemma on its own do you feel our pharmacist is being bullied?
