Lyme disease, also known as Lyme borreliosis, is an infection. It is caused by a group of spiral-shaped bacteria called Borrelia burgdorferi. these bacteria are transmitted to humans following a bite from an infected tick. (1)
The early stages of Lyme disease has the following features;
- Characteristic erythema migrans rash (also known as erythema chronicum migrans).
- Flu-like symptoms, with possible neurological, and cardiac involvement. (1)
