Do you work autonomously or are you supervised in your current role?
I work autonomously within my role, but I was supervised for all of my clinical roles by the previous practice pharmacist and our head Nurse before being signed off. Whenever there is a prescription query or an issue with a discharge summary, I am able to communicate with the GPs via EMIS/phone, or I wait for them to finish their clinics and discuss all of my queries with them then.
What do you love and also what do you hate about your current role?
I love the fact that I have the opportunity to mix my day up, and have a clinical role as well as an administrative role. I love the fact that I’ve gone from a really quiet, normal career to being catapulted into this exciting, different, sometimes crazy world of General Practice. All jobs can be stressful, and there can be days where you really feel negative about what you’re doing, and where your career is going but I wouldn’t change my job for the world. Its such an intense role, but I absolutely love it. I can see the impact that I have made, and that gives me the job satisfaction that I need. I have the support that I need, my career is moving in a positive direction, I get to see patients on a regular basis, it’s a great mix of what I enjoy.
My only dislike is the workload! But now that I have a pharmacist and potentially a new tech, things will be better. I came into this role with an open mind, and I was lucky to have an amazing pharmacist mentoring me, who has really steered me in the right direction and has helped me realise my potential.
