The second joint Community Pharmacy Scotland/ Strathclyde University Research day takes place later on today. The event has again attracted significant interest and also attracted a large number of research posters on a range of topics.
The event takes place tonight at the University of Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences and starts at 16.00.
The first research day held in September last year was a success with over 50 posters submitted. The posters were displayed on the day and more than 70 people attended the event.
The posters submitted this year span a range of topics which include the following;
- eHealth and Technology.
- Innovation and Novel services.
- Patient Safety. (New)
- Pharmacy Practice.
- Public Health. (New)
- Professional Development.
This year there have been a number of new features added to the agenda for the research event.
- A research ready event will take place from 16.00-17.00.
- There will be a poster walk between 18.30-19.00. This will involve six posters being selected to be presented verbally by the authors.
The purpose of the event is to create an environment where community pharmacists and pharmacists from other sectors can share their work and network at the same time. Delegates that attend on the night will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite poster. The winning author(s) will receive a prize.
Natalie Weir, PhD student at The University of Strathclyde said;
“The poster event is a fantastic way for pharmacists from all sectors and career stages to showcase their excellent work and develop a shared research network. Last year, 90% of attendees said the event inspired them to get more involved in research, which is exactly what we aimed for. This year promises to be bigger and better with an interactive poster walk and a “Research Ready” event. The enthusiasm of the poster contributors has been fantastic, which just goes to show the appetite there is for more pharmacy-based research.”
Harry McQuillan, Chief Executive Officer at Community Pharmacy Scotland commented;
“Community Pharmacy Scotland is delighted to be working with Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences to deliver our second Research Poster event on Tuesday 11th September 2018. This year sees forty-eight posters submitted from across the pharmacy spectrum with many from my colleagues in the community sector.
“One of our objectives is to encourage colleagues to display their work, activities and findings in a non-threatening environment and to show that it isn’t that difficult – it can’t be, even I’ve submitted one this year. It would be great to see friends, old and new, on the night and a warm welcome will be extended to anyone who comes along. The team have made some interesting changes this year with a poster walk and six five minute presentations from “willing” volunteers built in.
“The team at SIPBS deserve special mention for all their work bringing together what I’m sure will be another great event. Heartfelt thanks to Micaela, Phil and Natalie, who without their dedication and support, none of this would be possible.”
