A few months have passed since our pharmacist agreed to join the work WhatsApp group. The area manager has been pushing for results. Before the use of WhatsApp our pharmacist would not check his emails of an evening and would diligently turn on the email ‘out of office’ function if he went off on holiday.
In pursuit of results, the area manager has started to send messages after hours. This month there is a particular focus on sign-ups for the managed repeat prescription service. The pressure for results is such that the area manager has started a competition between the store managers. The store with the most sign-ups will win a prize. To encourage competition the area manager sends regular updates of the sign-up numbers achieved by each store. He has started to send updates via the WhatsApp group after hours to the apparent delight of some group members.
Is it acceptable to receive management instructions after hours via the WhatsApp group?
