The Government intend that the responsibility for public health be devolved to community pharmacy. This provides a key opportunity for pharmacy teams to engage with patients and become more involved than ever in health improvement services. Demonstrating that the pharmacy team is well trained and equipped to deliver patient-centric services could make a difference when competing locally and securing pharmacy funding now and in the future.
Critical to this is the steep rise of Healthy Living Pharmacies, which extol the benefits of promoting health and well-being and provide practical support for individuals trying to attain a healthier lifestyle.
Numark has developed a comprehensive programme of support designed to provide training on key health concerns married with practical tools and resources to help develop healthy living campaigns within the pharmacy to fit in with key health awareness dates throughout the year.
Our monthly programme of activity comprises our well established Counter Excellence training modules and Healthy Living Pharmacy Briefing Sheets.
Counter Excellence supports pharmacy teams to keep up to date on a variety of health concerns, provides healthy living advice and supports health promotion activity vital for the Healthy Living Pharmacy quality mark in England and the Health + Pharmacy scheme in Northern Ireland
Our brand new series of downloadable briefing sheets intend to guide Numark members through many of the major health promotions that they will need to run throughout the year to achieve and maintain their HLP Level 1 status.
The resource has been introduced to complement the full support and guidance already accessible online to aid members in achieving their accreditation.
Each briefing sheet guides the health champion on:
- Why running a health promotion is important.
- The background and impact for patients.
- Advice that can be offered in the pharmacy.
- Help to engage customers in having a discussion.
- Signposting to effective, accessible and up-to-date resources that can be ordered or downloaded for use during the promotion.
- Includes a step by step checklist with actions to take before, during and after a promotion.
- A health promotion summary sheet to log the evidence from the promotion.
