The GPhC has published standards for pharmacy professionals who choose to interact on social media. It is widely recognised that being a registered pharmacist or registered pharmacy technician is a privileged position. With this privilege comes the responsibility to behave ‘professionally’ and uphold the standards expected by the GPhC.
However, as with any area of practice, there are areas that there are situations that may not be so clear. This professional dilemma seeks to probe these areas and explore how pharmacists or pharmacy technicians view certain actions or behaviour online.
This dilemma will take you through the adventures of a pharmacist on social media. We hope you enjoy the dilemma and find it useful as you reflect on your own practice.
Note: the purpose of this dilemma was to present a case that may occur in practice; for you to consider what you would do if faced with it, and to encourage you to reflect on your decision. The possible answers are examples and are not an exhaustive list of all the potential solutions.
